With the A/C Box disassembled, I have the job of cleaning the interior and exterior of the 33 year old plastic pieces.
The part of the case that fits inside the vehicle was in pretty good shape and only needs light cleaning.
Before cleaning this part, I remove the bare metal baffle held inside.
This is some of the butyl that caked the bottom of the main body of the box. What a gooey mess!
I tried Goo Gone on a small part of the inside case where the butyl goo was located. The orange smelling cleaner emulsified the butyl perfectly.
I washed all the pieces with warm water and dish washing soap. This made them a bit chalky. Maybe I should have used a more gentle soap. ArmorAll fixed that.
This is the leaf guard that fits on top of the A/C Box over the fresh air intake. I have to duplicate this seal on reassembly.
